Huawei releases Mate 30 Pro without Google apps in Spain
Huawei will release its Mate 30 Pro smartphone as a test in Spain in three weeks. The manufacturer probably wants to know whether there is interest in the smartphone, which does not have the Play Store, Gmail and Google Play Services, among other things.
This is a test with limited quantities, according to the product page. Users can go to a physical store in the Spanish capital Madrid for a discount. Huawei mentions that it is the model with 8GB of memory and a storage of 256GB. Huawei probably wants to know how a release of an Android phone without Google services will affect the European public, WinFuture reports.
Huawei announced the Mate 30 Pro in September, but due to the US government’s trade ban, Google apps are not allowed on the phone. The search giant is allowed to provide the services for already approved phones, but is not allowed to approve new phones under the trade ban for US companies with Huawei.
By renaming phones already approved for the trade ban and new cameras, Huawei can still continue to release phones with Google apps in Europe. This is not possible with the Mate 30 Pro, because the new soc is a completely new model that had not yet been approved before the trade ban came into effect in mid-May.
Huawei said in its September announcement that it plans to release the Mate 30 Pro in Europe this year. With the announcement of the Mate 30 Pro in Spain, we succeeded. Whether and when the phone will appear in the Benelux is unknown.
