Huawei: quad-HD displays on smartphones are ‘total nonsense’
Huawei CEO Richard Yu argues that adding quad-HD displays on smartphones is ‘total nonsense’. Not only would the human eye no longer see an improvement in image quality at such high resolutions, the battery life would also be significantly shortened.
Yu made this known in an interview with TechRadar during the introduction of the Ascend P7, a device that is equipped with a full-HD 5 “screen. The Huawei CEO states that the company is technically capable of installing a qhd screen. to place a mobile phone, such as the upcoming LG G3, which will have a display that has 2560×1440 pixels and a pixel density of 538ppi. Yu states, however, that such a screen is ‘total nonsense’ and has no added value: “Your eyes can’t tell the difference. see, so why would we do that? I think it’s a stupid plan.”
In addition to the comment that a quad-HD screen does not provide a visible quality improvement compared to full-HD screens, the even higher resolution would have a negative impact on the battery life, according to the Huawei CEO. Moreover, such a display would make a mobile more expensive. At the beginning of this year, rumors appeared that Huawei would work on a high-end smartphone with a screen resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. That doesn’t seem likely anymore.
Yu also reports that Huawei will soon come up with new wearables, but he does not give any further details. The Chinese company showed the TalkBand B1, a smartwatch with a number of fitness features, during the Mobile World Congress in February.
