Huawei publishes list of smartphones on which it is testing Android Q

Huawei has published a list of smartphones that the company wants to provide with Android Q. The Chinese company reports that it is confident that its ‘most popular smartphones’ will receive the update to the new Android version.

It concerns more than seventeen Huawei smartphones of which the testing for the transition to Android Q has already started. The Mate 20 Pro has already received approval and will get Android Q once Google releases the OS. This is what Huawei claims in a faq about the consequences of the boycott of Huawei by the US.

The P30 series will also receive Android Q, the smartphone maker expects. That is not certain. In the question-and-answer list, Huawei tries to allay concerns from owners of Huawei devices. For example, the company promises that those consumers will continue to receive security updates, receive ongoing support and continue to have access to Android services and Google apps. High-end devices since the end of 2017 are on the list of devices on which Huawei tests Android Q, while of all midrange models, only devices from this year are on the list. There is no Honor on the list, presumably because it will publish its own list in the future.

In May, it became clear that Google was withdrawing its Android license from Huawei as a result of the trade boycott imposed by the US government. As a result, the company no longer has access to Android software from Google. As a result, devices would not receive new Google apps after an upgrade to Android Q. So far, Huawei has only implicitly hinted that the smartphones will get updates. At the same time, the company is preparing the arrival of its own Android alternative.
