Huawei presents smartwatch with its own chipset

Huawei has presented the Watch GT2, a smartwatch with its own Kirin A1 chipset. The smartwatch soc has a Cortex M7 processor, bluetooth chip and audio chip on board. The watch runs on LiteOS.

The Watch GT2 comes in two variants, which differ in other areas in addition to size. For example, the larger version has a larger working memory of 32 MB instead of 16 MB, a microphone and a speaker. The latter two are missing from the smaller version.

The Kirin A1 has a single Cortex M7 processor core and should also allow a better bluetooth connection, with more range than previous watches from the manufacturer. The watches also have a built-in GPS module, among other things to keep track of the location of workouts. On the back is a heart rate monitor that, according to Huawei, also works underwater. The storage is 4GB on both.

The small version has a 42mm housing with a 1.2″ OLED screen of 390×390 pixels. The 46mm variant has a 1.39″ OLED screen with a resolution of 454×454 pixels, which means that the pixel density of both versions is the same.

The operating system is Huawei’s own LiteOS and therefore not its own HarmonyOS. Huawei previously said that a smartwatch with HarmonyOS was coming. Huawei will release the Watch GT2 next month. The small version costs 229 euros, the large 249 euros. The GT2 succeeds the first Watch GT from last year.
