Huawei presents P20 Pro smartphone with forty-megapixel camera

Huawei has presented the P20 and P20 Pro. The Chinese manufacturer has put three cameras on the back on its most expensive smartphone, the Pro version. The primary camera has a resolution of 40 megapixels.

That camera has pixels of 1 micron in size and Huawei claims it is a sensor of 1/1.7 “. That is a lot larger than usual on phones. The software takes pictures with 10 megapixels in normal use, with the camera app combines information from four pixels in the photo.The lens has an aperture of f/1.8.

The secondary camera has a maximum resolution of 8 megapixels and a telephoto lens, which allows an equivalent of 3x optical zoom thanks to the different focal length. The third camera has a sensor for black and white images, without Bayer filter, with a maximum resolution of 20 megapixels and a lens with f/1.6 aperture. The front camera has a maximum resolution of 24 megapixels and an aperture of f/2.0. Huawei discloses few details about the sensors used. The primary camera has a focal length of 27mm in 35mm equivalent, with the telephoto lens that is 80mm. As a result, it appears that the secondary camera has a sensor of 1/5″ or smaller.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a screen with a ratio of 18.63:9 and a resolution of 2240×1080 pixels. It is an OLED panel with a diagonal of 6.1″. The screen has the width of a 5.4″ screen with a 16:9 ratio. Unlike the predecessor P10 Plus, the P20 Pro does not have a 3.5mm jack for headsets.

The device measures 155×73.9×7.8mm and weighs around 180 grams. The phone runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 970-soc. That’s the same soc as the Mate 10 Pro. It has four Cortex A73 cores at 2.36GHz and four A53 cores at 1.6GHz with a Mali G72MP12. The P20 Pro has 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage. Huawei does not specify the type of memory and storage involved.

In addition to the P20 Pro, the Huawei P20 will also be available. It has two cameras on the back. The primary camera has a maximum resolution of 12 megapixels and an f/1.8 lens. The secondary camera has a black and white sensor with the same features as the Pro. The screen of the P20 is a LCD with a diagonal of 5.8″ and a resolution of 2244×1080 pixels, with a ratio of 18.7:9. This makes the screen approximately as wide as the 5.1″ display of the P20. predecessor P10.

The back of both phones is made of glass. In addition, Huawei has chosen to omit the 3.5mm jack for headsets on both devices. The P20 measures 149.1×70.8mm and is 7.65mm thick. It weighs around 165 grams. The regular P20 will be released on Wednesday and will cost 679 euros. The P20 Pro will follow in about three weeks and costs 899 euros.
