Huawei: Mate 30 comes out without Google apps and services
Huawei is going to release the Mate 30 series of phones without Google apps and services. The phones do run Android and the manufacturer is looking for alternatives, according to a CEO of the company.
For example, the Mate 30 may have a third-party navigation app in the firmware, Huawei CEO Wang Chenglu said in an interview with Ausdroid. That way it is possible to replace many of the Google apps, but there is no alternative on Android to Google Play Services, which many apps use to connect to Google APIs as location services. How Huawei will overcome this is unknown. Huawei will announce the Mate 30 next Thursday.
A few weeks ago, Google already said that it would not be possible for Huawei to put Google services on the Mate 30. The US government imposed a trade ban on US companies with Huawei in May on suspicion of espionage. This has been postponed until November, but that is only to handle current affairs, not for the release of new smartphones, for example. According to the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei, it is not only about the Mate 30, but also the foldable Mate X. It should be released within a month and a half.
Huawei will upgrade thirty existing phones to Emui 10, presumably based on Android 10. The upgrades will start with the P30 and P30 Pro in November, followed by the Mate 20 series and Honor 20 phones in December. The P30 Lite and P20 phones will receive the upgrade in March next year, AndroidPit writes.
