The Chinese Huawei has announced the successor of their successful P Smart. The P Smart + has, just like the predecessor, especially used on a top selfie camera. The design of the P Smart + is very similar to Huawei’s recent P20 with a Fullview 6.3 inch display with a small ‘notch’ at the top. Above that screen is also a double selfie camera. There is both a 24 MP and a 2MP camera lens so you can add a maximum of bokeh to your selfies. The device also has a number of standard lighting modes so that you can take beautiful photos of yourself at any time. The extra camera in combination with what Huawei calls the ‘Front Circular Screen Light’ would also help to make better photos in the dark.
Use is even made of software to recognize common situations and to immediately look for the best settings. That saves time, reducing the likelihood that your beautiful photo opportunity is over before you have found the right settings. As you have expected, the camera also has a super-slow-mo mode so you can record with 480 frames per second.
Mid range but not mediocre
The specifications of the P Smart + are not wrong for the suggested retail price (350 euro). You get a Kirin 710 processor with eight cores, 4 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage, possibly expandable with an SD card. The screen is large but also the resolution is not wrong with 2340 x 1080 pixels. What you do not get is NFC support (so do not pay with your smartphone) and USB-C. Indeed, the P Smart + uses a micro-USB connection. Wireless charging is not included, but if you do not mind the location of the SD card, you can still insert a second SIM card. Do you have less space to store all those selfies, of course.
However, the Android 8.1 device has a large battery of 3340 mAh, so you can assume that the device lasts a long time. That is good if you want to play games on the device, because there is also a ‘Game Suit’ on the smartphone that optimizes your experience. You can choose not to be disturbed while playing, or to display notifications in a small window so that you do not go off in Fortnite. The device also has Hists 5.0-3D surround sound so that you can hear exactly where everyone is in your headphones.
The device will be sold from August 8 via Tele2, Belsimpel and Media Markt. You can choose from two colors: black and ‘Iris Purple’, or purple / blue. For the price it seems like a good device, especially if you like to make (good) selfies.
