Huawei launches cloud gaming platform in partnership with Tencent
Huawei and Tencent have announced that they will jointly establish a cloud gaming platform. In addition, Huawei will supply the hardware with, among other things, its own processor, while Tencent will focus more on the software side.
The two companies released a statement posted online by Reuters news agency. In that statement, which contains relatively few details, the two Chinese companies indicate that a cloud gaming platform is being established with the name GameMatrix.
Within the partnership, Huawei will provide hardware; it uses, among other things, the Kunpeng processor series developed by Huawei. In addition, the two companies have agreed to jointly look into possibilities for incorporating artificial intelligence and augmented reality into games, although no further plans are known.
As few details have been disclosed, it is unclear how users will be able to start playing the cloud games. It is also not known which countries the two companies will focus on; it is likely that they will be the first to focus on their home country of China, where Tencent is already a major provider of games.
