Huawei is likely to make a smartphone with three cameras on the back

Huawei is likely to release a smartphone in its P-series with three cameras on the back, including a 40-megapixel camera. This is evident from marketing posters discovered by telecom journalist Evan Blass.

Evan Blass published the posters in a tweet on his account @evleaks. He says the footage was in the portfolio of an artist who works for a company where Huawei does advertising. The posters have since been removed from the portfolio, indicating that the information should not have been released.

The posters show that Huawei is strongly committed to the collaboration with Leica. One of the posters features Pro Triple-Lens Leica Rear Cameras. That seems to indicate that a smartphone with three cameras on the back is coming. This could be lenses with a different focal length, for example wide-angle, normal and telephoto, or another combination such as color and black and white and a third camera with a telephoto or wide-angle lens.

The device with three cameras has 40-megapixels according to the fine print and 5x ‘hybrid zooming’. By using a sensor with many megapixels, Huawei could apply digital zoom by cropping the sensor. Nokia already applied that technology in the past in the Lumia 1020. That phone has a large 41-megapixel sensor and took photos of 5-megapixel with 2.7x ‘zoom’.

The posters talk about the PCE Series. This may be a temporary name. Blass notices that there are also posters that use images of the existing Huawei P10, probably as a placeholder. It therefore seems logical that the new device is also a model in the P series, for example the P11.
