Huawei gives cheap smartphones security updates every three months
Huawei will now provide cheap smartphones with security updates every three months. More expensive models receive the updates every two months, while the high-end devices can expect patches every month.
If Huawei keeps its promise, then it is in line with what Samsung is doing. The South Korean manufacturer also gives its cheaper smartphones about every three months a security update. In addition to announcing its intention to push security updates to all smartphones, Huawei also announced which phones will be upgraded to Android 8.0.
The Mate 9 is the first to go, writes GSMArena. That device, together with the Pro version, can look forward to an upgrade to Android 8 within a month. The upgrade for the P10 and P10 Plus will follow ‘in the near future’. Huawei has not said anything about other devices. The devices that receive an update all have a Kirin 960-soc from Huawei itself.
If Huawei sticks to this, phones like the P10 Lite and P8 Lite (2017), both phones that hit the market this year, will fall by the wayside. The Chinese manufacturer has also not announced anything about the P9 series and Nova from last year.
