Huawei has replaced 13,000 parts with Chinese ones in the past three years due to US trade restrictions. In addition, 4,000 printed circuit boards have been redesigned, according to founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei.

Huawei also invested 23.8 billion dollars in research & development last year. Zhengfei said this in a speech that took place in February. The transcript of which was released this week, reports Reuters. As profitability improves, the company plans to increase R&D spending even more, Zhengfei said.

In addition to making smartphones, Huawei is known for supplying equipment for 5G networks. The tech company was blacklisted by the United States in 2019 after accusations of espionage. The use of Huawei’s technology in communication and networking devices has since been banned. The Chinese company is also no longer allowed to purchase parts from the United States. Huawei itself still contradicts all allegations.
