Huawei combines smart speaker with WiFi and 4G router
Huawei has unveiled the AI Cube, a smart speaker on which Amazon’s Alexa assistant is present. The cylindrical device can also serve as a dual-band WiFi-ac router and LTE modem.
The AI Cube somewhat resembles a stretched Google Home, but runs Amazon’s rival assistant. The white speaker is 218 mm high and weighs 900 grams. Four microphones are incorporated into the housing, with support for far-field sound recognition. At the top are physical buttons for operation.
The router integrated into the speaker supports 802.11ac WiFi at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, with a theoretical maximum download speed of 1.2Gbit/s. In addition, there is room for a SIM card, so that the device can serve as an lte hotspot, with lte cat 6 supported for download speeds of up to 300Mbit/s. The Ethernet connection is located at the bottom. Huawei has not yet announced details about the price, but the speaker should be released in mid-December.
