Huawei cancels smartphone with dualboot Android and Windows Phone
Huawei has put its plans to release a smartphone running both Android and Windows Phone on hold. After Samsung and Asus, Huawei is the third manufacturer to cancel a product with Android and Windows on a system.
Huawei thus returns to an earlier announcement. Running both Windows Phone and Android on a smartphone will be possible with the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1, where the control buttons – including the Windows key – can be placed on the screen. As a result, there is no longer any difference in appearance or hardware between the requirements of both operating systems. In addition, the licensing costs of Windows Phone are rumored to have fallen or, in some cases, manufacturers no longer have to pay anything to use Windows Phone.
The reason for canceling the dualboot smartphone is not clear, but from the statement against Fierce Wireless it can be concluded that the smartphone will not be available for the time being. However, Huawei continues to work on devices with Windows Phone and it also continues to make Android smartphones.
It has been rumored for some time that Google is not happy with the possibility of dual boot hardware with Android and variants of Windows. Asus would therefore have canceled the release of a previously announced tablet. Samsung did not release the Ativ Q last year.
