Huawei Ascend P6 gets update to Android 4.4
Huawei is updating its smartphone Ascend P6 from Android 4.2 to Android 4.4. In addition, users get features that are on the newer Ascend P7. The update arrives over-the-air on devices.
The update for the Western European version of the Ascend P6 weighs 789MB, according to the screenshot that a tweaker sent. The update not only brings the Android version to 4.4, but Huawei’s own Emotion UI goes from 1.6 to 2.3. In that new version, for example, there are more options to make people ‘prettier’ with photo filters, with a smaller nose, a narrower face and larger eyes, as can also be found on the Ascend P7.
In addition, several smaller issues have been addressed. For example, users no longer have to click OK on the lock screen after correctly typing their security code. New messages can also light up the screen, after which users can go directly to that message.
It’s the biggest update to the Ascend P6 yet. The device was released in July last year. Huawei is now number three in the global smartphone market after Apple and Samsung, partly due to the success of the P6 and cheaper models from the manufacturer.
