Huawei announces sunglasses with integrated speakers for 330 euros

Huawei has announced the x Gentle Monster Eyewear II. These sunglasses have integrated speakers, sensors, Bluetooth and NFC and are intended for listening to music in combination with a smartphone.

It is the second generation of Eyewear technology that Huawei is integrating into sunglasses in collaboration with the Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster. Compared to the first generation, the Eyewear II speakers are larger and slimmer. Half-open, elongated speakers are incorporated in the temples of the glasses, which reproduce sound close to the wearer’s ears.

The glasses support Bluetooth 5.2 to establish a connection with a smartphone. This requires the AI ​​Life app, which is available for Android in the Huawei AppGallery. To make the connection, users can tap the frame at the left temple. Sensors in the glasses detect whether a user turns them off, after which the music is paused. If the wearer puts it back on within three minutes, the music will play again.

Operation can also be done by swiping along the temples. With its battery capacity of 85 mAh, the Eyewear II would be able to play music continuously for up to five hours via the smartphone. Quick donning and donning shows the battery status on the smartphone screen. The glasses support wireless charging. Huawei makes two models of the Eyewear II available: Smart Lang and Smart Myma. Both are sunglasses and have a suggested retail price of 330 euros. The ‘normal’ glasses with Eyewear II, Smart Kubo and Smart Havana do not seem to be released in the Benelux yet.
