Huawei accuses US of ‘political persecution’
Huawei has spoken out against new US spying allegations. The company believes this is “political persecution” in an attempt to undermine its business. The US recently filed new charges against Huawei.
According to Huawei, the new charges are not new cases, but are based on civil cases already settled by the company over the past 20 years. These would now be used by the American authorities for a criminal case, Huawei said. In addition, the company points out that no judge has pronounced a conviction.
Huawei’s rulings come shortly after the US Department of Justice filed a new lawsuit against the Chinese manufacturer with 16 charges, including copyright infringement and stealing trade secrets. Huawei is said to have done so by violating non-disclosure contracts, taking over competitors’ employees and handing out bonuses for collecting other people’s trade secrets.
Governments in the United States and Europe have been concerned for some time about Huawei’s activities. There are suspicions that the company is spying for the Chinese government, causing many countries to be wary of using Huawei equipment for 5G networks. There is now a strict selection policy for 5G equipment that has been agreed by EU countries, which seems to be mainly aimed at Huawei.
