The camera with which HTC is rumored to want to compete with the GoPro will be called RECamera and will have the appearance of a small periscope. The small size and kink at the lens would make it easier to make videos of yourself and your surroundings.

The name and images appeared on a teaser website discovered by a Reddit user. The accompanying video states that something “remarkable is coming.” Underwater images can be seen, indicating that the RECamera also functions underwater.

The images also show that the camera becomes very small and has a curved design, similar to a periscope. The camera can be placed in a holder that can then be attached, for example, to the carrying strap of a backpack, in order to take continuous images of the environment. It also mentions a companion app called REMoments.

Earlier rumors spoke of the presence of a ‘wide-angle lens’ with a maximum resolution of 16 megapixels for the RECamera. HTC will hold a press event in New York on October 8. The camera will probably be announced there.
