HTC will come with two high-end smartphones at the end of this year
HTC has announced that it will come with two different high-end smartphones in the fall. The company describes one as “fashionable” and “trendy”, while the other will be a “classic version” of a current device.
These devices will be released in the period between the beginning of October and December, as can be concluded from the discussion of the quarterly figures that HTC has put online on Thursday afternoon. CEO Chialin Chang reports that one of the reasons why the One M9 sells poorly is that it is not “fashionable” enough according to customers.
With a ‘classic’ device, HTC probably refers to a variant of the One M9 or One M8, while the ‘trendy’ device probably has a new design. Both devices will be “high-end”, but not as expensive as the One M9, the CEO said. Chang went on to say that HTC is going to thin out its portfolio of devices. With the One M9, M9 Plus, E9, E9 Plus and ME in its One line, it already released five more expensive phones in the first half of the year.
HTC booked a turnover of around 950 million euros in the spring, while the loss amounted to around 230 million euros. The manufacturer wants to cut costs to counteract the losses.
