HTC has made a loss for the third quarter in a row. Turnover amounted to 25.7 billion Taiwan dollars, the loss amounts to 3.4 billion Taiwan dollars. Compared to the previous two quarters, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer makes less loss.

Although HTC’s quarterly figures are not rosy, the manufacturer reports that the Desire smartphones had “good momentum” during the holiday season and that the HTC One A9 was “well received” in Asia, the United States and Europe. However, the manufacturer does not disclose numbers, so whether HTC has actually achieved success with its smartphones cannot be substantiated. Sales show a small increase compared to the previous quarter, but have almost halved compared to a year ago.

In the fourth quarter, HTC booked a turnover of 25.7 billion Taiwan dollars, which is about 700 million euros. The net loss amounted to 3.4 billion Taiwan dollars, converted approximately 93 million euros. The operating loss amounted to 4.1 billion Taiwan dollars, or 112 million euros. The loss is slightly lower than in the previous two quarters, but a year ago HTC managed to book a minimal profit. HTC does not disclose how many smartphones the company will ship, but according to analysts at Juniper Research, the Taiwanese manufacturer shipped fewer than three million units in the fourth quarter.

HTC did not convince in 2015 with its smartphones. The One M9 had little to offer compared to its predecessors and the HTC One A9 turned out to be a mediocre midranger for a premium price. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer also seems to see no future in its smartphones. In January, CEO Cher Wang said that the virtual reality headset Vive is more important to the company. HTC will release the Vive in April.
