HTC presents Proton prototypes of ar glasses
HTC has presented the Proton prototypes of AR glasses. Unlike other AR glasses, users do not see the real world through transparent lenses, but rather a video image of reality containing interface elements.
The Proton glasses, according to InputMag, use microscreens with a limited field of view to ensure that the headsets are smaller than current Vive headsets, such as those from the new Cosmos series. The design of the Proton prototype that HTC is now showing looks a bit like ski goggles and the intention is that in the long term it will have the design of regular glasses.
There are now two versions: one has all the components on the back of the headband, another has a connection to a device that users can attach to their pants, the director of HTC told The Verge. The reason for this is that HTC wants to build in a 5G connection, but users would not want a 5G device near their head.
There are no specs and details of the glasses yet; it would be too early for that. The intention is to bring the glasses to the market sometime in the coming years. HTC has so far only made VR glasses in its Vive series, although the Cosmos XR can also make use of ar applications.
