HTC has officially announced the slightly larger version of the M9 with fingerprint sensor and MediaTek soc. The One M9 Plus has a fingerprint scanner on the front and a slightly larger screen than the regular One M9.

The One M9 + has a 5.2 “screen with a ‘2K screen’ with which the manufacturer may refer to a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. HTC invariably speaks of 1920×1080 pixels as ‘full-hd’. This means that the M9+ has a larger screen diagonal and higher resolution than the regular One M9, which has a 5” screen with full HD resolution. In addition, unlike the M9, there is a fingerprint sensor under the screen. It works just like iPhones and the Galaxy S6 with the imposition of the finger. The 2013 One max, the first HTC smartphone with a fingerprint scanner, works with a scanner that requires a swipe.

The processor is a MediaTek MT6795T Helio X10 octacore, a 64bit chip with eight Cortex A53 cores that have a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz, assisted by a PowerVR G6200 GPU from Imagination. MediaTek wants to compete with Qualcomm’s most powerful Snapdragons with its Helio series, although the soc does not have fast Cortex A57 cores and only works with the less fast Cortex A53 microarchitecture. There is 3GB of memory.

The battery capacity is 2840mAh and the BoomSound speakers are present on the front. The HTC M9+ also has a 20-megapixel camera that, just like the M8, is called ‘Duo Camera’ because of the second lens. This secondary lens stores depth information that makes it possible to show a different part of the photo sharply during post-processing of an image.

HTC announces the device for the Chinese market, but that the announcement on HTC’s own blog is in English and the English marketing material on the Chinese site indicates that HTC also wants to market the device outside of China. HTC says nothing about a release of the new devices outside of China.

HTC has also announced the E9. This is a large device with a 5.5″ screen with 1920×1080 pixels and a 13-megapixel camera. This means that the resolution of both the screen and the camera is lower than that of the E9+ announced on Sunday. The further specifications of the E9 are not yet known. .

The E9 also only has a Chinese product page for the time being. Prices and release dates have not yet been announced.
