HTC opens Viveport store for VR applications
HTC has opened the doors of its virtual store for VR applications. The Viveport store should become the home for all applications that work with the Vive headset. In addition to games, it includes apps for social media, 360-degree video, education, news and sports.
The store’s beta phase kicked off in China in early August and got an extended developer beta last month. The Viveport store will open its doors to the general public in thirty countries on Friday. With the store it is no longer necessary to run or purchase applications via Steam.
Initially, there will be more than fifty applications in the store, with categories for design tools, art, music, health, fashion, travel, shopping and games from Steam in addition to the aforementioned parts. To celebrate the launch, several titles are available for 89 cents.
The store can be accessed via the headset as well as via a regular desktop or mobile app. Although developers can add content themselves, the content must comply with certain HTC guidelines.
