HTC: One M9 now uses improved version Snapdragon 810
Like other manufacturers, HTC is now using the v2.1 revision of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810-soc in its One M9 smartphone. That overhaul should solve the heat problems of the soc. Xiaomi has already released its Mi Note Pro with this improved version.
Although the first One M9s rolled off the line with the teased v2.0 version of the Snapdragon 810, the One M9 is now on the better v2.1, say HTC’s PR chief on Twitter. In that variant, Qualcomm has increased the memory bandwidth and GPU speed and seems to have solved the heat problems of the soc.
The problem with the v2.0 version of the Snapdragon 810 is that manufacturers have to force it to clock back aggressively to control heat production. This led to the fact that after a while of intensive use, the performance of the Snapdragon 810 is not above that of previous Snapdragon socs. In addition, after an update to address heat production, some One M9 owners are faced with the problem that it takes much longer to charge the device, in some cases up to 13 hours.
Xiaomi has screwed the v2.1 version of the Snapdragon 810 into its Mi Note Pro since its release, which as a result performs much better than the One M9 with the v2.0 version. According to the PR chief, ‘almost’ all manufacturers with devices that use the Snapdragon 810 have switched to the new version of the soc.
