HTC launches Vive app store for non-game applications called Viveport
HTC introduces Viveport, an app store that should become the home for all non-game applications for the HTC Vive headset. The company plans to house VR apps here in categories such as education, social media, 360-degree video, news, sports, and more.
Viveport was announced at the VRLA expo in Los Angeles on Friday. The company has also dedicated a blog post to it. Viveport is now starting its beta phase in China and in the coming weeks, users and developers in 30 different countries should be able to access the environment. A full release will take place in the fall of this year.
The store will be accessible via headset, as well as a PC and mobile app and the web. Developers will soon be able to publish on Viveport, but the content they add must meet HTC’s guidelines. HTC has prepared a FAQ about Viveport for your convenience. Currently, the store environment would contain about 100 apps. Nothing more is known about Viveport at this time.
