‘HTC is working on Nexus tablet with 8.9″ screen and Tegra K1 soc’
HTC is said to be planning to release an 8.9″ tablet in Google’s Nexus series. This Nexus 9 tablet is equipped with Nvidia’s 64-bit soc Tegra K1. The tablet is rumored to arrive in the fourth quarter of out this year.
That reports Android Police, which usually has reliable sources. The HTC tablet, which will probably bear the name Nexus 9, has an 8.9 “screen with a resolution of 2048×1440 pixels. The 64-bit variant of the Tegra K1 soc from Nvidia is built into the housing. -soc is based on the ARMv8 instruction set, and according to Android Police, it comes with 2GB of RAM, a choice of 16GB or 32GB of storage, an 8-megapixel camera for photos and an aluminum housing.
According to the sources of Android Police, the release is planned for sometime in the last quarter of 2014. A more precise release date is not known. For the tablet, HTC and Google would ask a price of $399 for the 16GB version and $499 for the 32GB version. Versions with lte support have to pay extra. This makes the Nexus 9 more expensive than the Nexus 7.
It may be one of the last devices to be released in the Nexus series. According to rumors, Google wants to start with the Silver line from next year. This would concern existing smartphones, and possibly tablets, that are sold via Google with a bare version of Android. The internet giant is already doing something similar by selling so-called Google Play Editions of existing smartphones.
It is still unclear which version of Android will run on the HTC tablet. It may be the expected new version of Android that will be presented at the developer conference Google I/O and will contain 64-bit support. The Nexus 9 itself will not be presented at Google I/O, which will be held on June 25 and 26, Android Police claims. There have been rumors about the Nexus tablet from HTC before.
