HTC has ended production of the Nexus 9 tablet for Google. That has been confirmed by the manufacturer. The tablet was no longer in the Google Store and now no longer has prices in the Pricewatch.

HTC denies that it has stopped production due to lack of demand, Cnet writes. Nevertheless, it seems likely that the Taiwanese hardware maker would have continued to make the tablet if enough people had wanted to buy it. Google has now had its own tablet on the market in the form of the Pixel C for six months.

The Nexus 9 came out in the fall of 2014 and formed a trend break with the earlier Nexus 7s of the years before. Not only is the 9″ tablet a lot bigger than its predecessor, it also turned out to be a lot more expensive. Google is still supporting the Nexus 9 with updates and is releasing its previews of Android N for the HTC tablet.

It is unknown how many copies of the Nexus 9 HTC has sold. Smartphone and tablet makers rarely disclose exact sales numbers for individual products.
