‘HTC considers sale of Vive division to turn financial tide’
HTC is considering selling the division that makes the well-known Vive vr headset due to financial problems. Another, less likely option, is for the entire company to go under the hammer. That reports financial news site Bloomberg.
Bloomberg writes that the company is meeting with an advisor to look at all options to weather the financially difficult weather. A full sale of the company is unlikely “because the various parts are so varied that finding a suitable buyer is difficult.” Finding an investor is also an option. Selling the Vive division would be a godsend as that device competes well with the other products on the market, unlike the company’s smartphones, which don’t match those of Apple and Samsung in sales.
Although the message comes from anonymous sources, it rhymes with HTC’s decision to lower the Vive in price. It did earlier this week. Where the headset first cost 899 euros, it is now 699 euros.
HTC has roughly made a loss for the past two years. Although it should be mentioned that it is well on the way to reversing these losses. For example, it made a loss of 73 million euros in the first quarter of 2017, but that was more than double in the same quarter of 2016.
