HTC announces One A9 smartphone with 5″ 1080p AMOLED display – update
HTC has announced a new smartphone called One A9 in a presentation on YouTube. The device has an aluminum unibody and a 5″ 1080p AMOLED screen, a Snapdragon 617 octacore CPU and up to 3GB of RAM.
HTC announces that the device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with their own well-known Sense shell over it. The processor’s cores have different speeds; the first four run at 1.5GHz and the last four at 1.2GHz. The internal storage memory is 16 or 32GB and can be expanded with a micro-SD card with a maximum capacity of 2TB. An important detail is that the 16GB variant is equipped with 2GB ram and the 32GB version with 3GB ram. Power is supplied to the device via a 2150mAh battery that supports quick charge 3.0. HTC itself speaks of a standby time of 18 days, or 16 hours of calling, or 9 hours of browsing on Wi-Fi.
The dimensions of the case are 145.75 x 70.8 x 7.26mm and the weight is 143 grams. HTC has also incorporated a fingerprint sensor in the hardware button on the front. The connection is via micro USB 2.0. Unlike, for example, the One M9, the One A9 has its speakers on the bottom of the device.
On the audio front, HTC is introducing support for 24-bit, 192KHz audio. In addition, the company promises that the built-in amplifier will be able to “support even the largest headphones at maximum volume.” The One A9 is sold in three different colors: opal silver, carbon gray and topaz gold.
The One A9 has a suggested retail price of 599 euros and should be available worldwide in early November. The version that HTC itself in the US sells through its webshop, must receive its system updates within fifteen days after the Google Nexus devices, the Taiwanese company promises. It is not clear how soon the updates for the rest of the One A9 devices will follow, but in theory that does not have to take long.
Update, Wednesday, 09:56: the article stated that the One A9 has 16GB of internal memory and 2GB of ram, while there is also a 32GB/3GB model. This information has been added.
