HTC has announced its first own game for its VR headset Vive. It concerns a shooter called Front Defense, which the Taiwanese hardware maker will show next week at the Computex hardware fair, which takes place in Taiwan.

HTC has released few details and no gameplay footage of Front Defense. According to the manufacturer, it is a shooter that takes place in a war situation. In doing so, players must get to grips with classic weapons, including rifles and anti-tank missiles.

It is the first time that HTC is developing a game. Until now, the manufacturer only made hardware in the form of smartphones, tablets and the Vive. It also makes software, mostly including apps and services for its own phones. It once made its own game for Windows Mobile and later Android. Teeter is a game in which a ball has to be led past obstacles to a hole and was mainly intended to show the possibilities of the then new tilt sensor in telephones.

The Taiwanese hardware maker also announced a $100 million fund to invest in developers who want to create tools and apps for the Vive under the name Vive X. HTC released the Vive this spring. The manufacturer supplies the VR headset with two controllers. Users walk in a predefined virtual space and two hanging boxes constantly track the position of the user in the room. In this way, buyers of the Vive can walk around in the virtual world to a limited extent.
