HTC 10 keyboard starts showing ads – update

HTC seems to have provided the standard keyboard on the HTC 10 smartphone with advertisements. User reports of spontaneously appearing ads above the keyboard appeared online this weekend.

On GoT, among others, users reported that their standard keyboard on the HTC 10 has suddenly started showing advertisements. They appear above the keyboard and come from Google Adwords. Ads appear to have started this weekend, given reports that have appeared online from HTC 10 users.

It is still unclear why the advertisements spontaneously appeared on the HTC keyboard; the manufacturer itself has not released anything about this yet. It is also not known whether the ads are based on the user’s typing behaviour. It does not seem possible for the time being to remove the advertisements, although it is possible to switch to a different keyboard.

Update, Monday: HTC claims it is a bug and the company is working to remove the ads as soon as possible. HTC uses the software from Touchpal, a keyboard from a third company. The manufacturer recommends removing the error from the keyboard updates, so that ads no longer appear.
