HP: ‘Telemetry Analysis Tool’ Has Been On Computers For Years And Hasn’t Changed

Computer maker HP has responded to the commotion about its telemetry analysis tool Touchpoint Analytics Client. According to the company, the app logs hardware performance and only sends information anonymized and when users want it.

Touchpoint Analytics Client has been part of Support Assistant since 2014, according to an HP statement published by Engadget, “It collects anonymous diagnostic information about hardware performance. No data is shared with HP unless users explicitly consent. Customers can opt-out or disable the uninstall the service at any time.”

According to HP, the service recently received an update, but no privacy settings would have been adjusted. LaptopMag looked at the service’s logs and found no privacy-sensitive data in them, nor could it find evidence that the service had sent logs to HP servers.

If the service is on the PC, it can be found under C:ProgramDataHPHP Touchpoint Analytics Client. Users can uninstall the application through the settings menu. On Tuesday, it appeared that many complaints appeared on the HP forum about the application and its use of resources.
