HP Reverb G2 VR headset includes the same speakers as Valve Index
HP has revealed details of its second-generation Reverb virtual reality headset. The manufacturer has made improvements to the audio reproduction and integrated four instead of two cameras.
HP already showed a teaser of a VR headset that it developed together with Microsoft and Valve at the end of March and on Thursday the company revealed the details of the Reverb G2. Last year’s successor to Reverb still contains the LCDs with the relatively high resolution of 2160×2160 pixels per eye and an angle of view of 114 degrees. At the bottom is a slider to adjust the distance between the lenses to the ipd, or interpupillary distance, the distance between the center of the pupils.
For the audio reproduction, HP uses speakers developed by Valve, which are also incorporated in Valve’s Index headset. These speakers offer spacious sound and are located 10mm from the wearer’s ears. In addition to the Reverb’s two front-facing cameras, two side-facing cameras have been added for better controller tracking. Those bluetooth controllers have also had an update, with a changed layout of the buttons.
The Reverb G2 supports Windows Mixed Reality and SteamVR. HP will start shipping in the fall in the US for $599. That’s the same suggested retail price as the G1 had when it first appeared last year.
