HP releases Specter x2 convertible and 12.9mm thin Envy laptop

HP has announced a new Specter x2, in which the tablet part of the convertible has a kickstand for standing upright. At the same time, the company releases the Envy 13 laptop, which should distinguish itself with its thickness of 12.9 mm, among other things.

The Specter x2 is a combination of tablet and connectable keyboard, like Microsoft’s Surface Pro, Lenovo’s Miix 7000 and Asus’ T300 Chi. HP has equipped the Specter x2 with a kickstand: a stainless steel stand that sits in the housing and that can be folded out to different positions to place the tablet.

The tablet is 8mm thick and weighs 840 grams. That weight increases to 1.22 kilograms when combined with the keyboard. The keyboard is 5mm thick, has a backlight and is coated with aluminum to give it rigidity. The keys have 1.5mm travel and the trackpad size of 120x55mm is comparable to that of a laptop.

The 12″ screen of the Specter shows a resolution of 1920×1280 pixels. Furthermore, the convertible is equipped with an Intel Core M of the Skylake generation and HP offers the option for up to 512GB SSD storage and up to 8GB RAM. USB-C ports and there is a micro SD card reader.The front camera is a dual-5-megapixel combination with support for Intel’s RealSense and on the back is an 8-megapixel camera.

The starting price of the Specter x2 is 999 euros and HP will deliver the model from November.

In addition to the Specter x2, HP is releasing the Envy 13. According to HP, this is the thinnest laptop the company has ever released: the model measures 12.9 mm. The weight of the laptop is 1.27 kilograms. The Envy has a 13.3″ screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 or 3200×1800 pixels. The manufacturer will equip the laptop with Skylake Core i5s and i7s, an SSD of up to 512GB and up to 8GB of RAM. The Envy 13 has furthermore, three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and a memory card reader.The laptop’s keyboard can be illuminated and a fingerprint reader is present for authentication.With its battery capacity of 45Wh, the laptop can last up to 10 hours, claims HP.

HP will release the Envy 13 from mid-October in the Benelux and the starting price will be 799 euros.

After all, HP has upgraded its Specter x360 with Skylake processors. This version comes in a black version with copper accents and can now also be supplied with SSD storage capacity of up to 512GB and a screen resolution of 3200×1800 pixels. The starting price is 1199 euros.
