HP releases Chromebooks with USB-C and Celeron N-socs

HP is going to release the Chromebook 11 G6 and 14 G5. The Chromebooks with 11.6″ and 14″ screens, respectively, are equipped with Intel Celeron N dual-cores and quad-cores of the Apollo Lake generation. The laptops contain USB-C as a power connector.

HP focuses with the Chromebooks on use by educational institutions and the enterprise market. The resolution of the HP Chromebook 11 G6 and 14 G5 is 1366×768 pixels and the screen can be tilted 180 degrees. The Chromebook 11 G6 will be available in variants with an IPS screen and with a touchscreen. Both Chromebooks come in variants with the Intel Celeron N3350 dual-core or N3450 quad-core. These are still Intel Apollo Lake chips, and not the Gemini Lake successors, the Celeron N4000 and N4100.

The Chromebooks get up to 8GB of RAM and up to 64GB of emmc flash storage. Both laptops have a USB-C port for charging and a 2×2 802.11ac WiFi card is available for the wireless network connection. The laptops are less than 19mm thick and meet MIL-STD 810G guidelines for ruggedness and durability. They support running Android apps through the Play Store.

HP has not yet officially announced the Chromebooks, but both CNet’s Spanish site and AnandTech appear to have put their messages online early. The official unveiling is likely to follow next week during CES 2018.
