HP provides EliteBook laptops with bios protection
HP has announced the HP EliteBook 800 G4 line of business laptops. The models feature generation three of Sure Start security, which now includes system management mode. This allows security to detect if the bios has been tampered with.
HP Sure Start Gen3 could automatically detect both during pre-boot and after boot if, for example, rootkits try to adjust the bios, HP claims. The technology then notifies the user and restores the bios to its original state. This is done in hardware from a copy that is stored on a special chip. This is also possible for versions with special settings from, for example, the IT department of a company.
Sure Start Gen3 is coming to new Elite PCs and HP specifically mentions the HP EliteBook 800 G4 line. According to Liliputing, these laptops will be available in 2017, in variants with 12.5″, 14″ and 15.6″ screens. The HP EliteBook 820 G4 is the 12.5″ model, with up to 32GB ddr4-2133 RAM and 512GB SSD or 1TB HDD storage. The 840 G4 has a 14″ screen with an optional resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and the 850 G4 has a 15.6″ screen that comes with a 4k resolution. It can also get an AMD Radeon R7 M465 video card. All laptops get Intel processors of the Kaby Lake generation.
