HP offers $3.3 billion to acquire Poly
HP announces an acquisition of manufacturer Poly. With the acquisition, HP aims to better serve customers with equipment that enables hybrid working. The deal is worth $3.3 billion.
Poly makes the sale to HP announced in a press release. It is not clear whether Poly will continue to exist as a separate brand or whether it will be completely absorbed into HP. Although the CEO of HP Enrique Lores indicates in a statement that the new collaboration between HP and the Poly team can be used to work on a ‘stronger HP’. The two companies aim to close the deal before the end of 2022.
Until a few years ago, manufacturer Poly was known as Plantronics and Polycom. The company mainly sells equipment used for video calling, such as headsets and bluetooth earphones. HP plans to bundle Poly’s products with HP’s own products and services in the future.
In 2018, there was already talk of a possible sale of Plantronics. Logitech is said to have expressed an interest in the company at the time. That deal ultimately fell through.
