HP launches Hybrid Chromebook x2 as an iPad Pro competitor

HP has announced the very first hybrid Chromebook with a removable touch screen. All hardware is in the Chromebook x2 tablet, so you can use the device perfectly without a keyboard. Prices start from $ 599, euro prices and European availability are not yet known.

The Chromebook x2 is the very first hybrid laptop with removable screen that runs Chrome OS. The tablet itself is 8.2 mm thin and weighs 734 grams. When you take the keyboard, the Chromebook x2 becomes 15.3 mm thick and weighs 1.42 kg. You can configure the device with the 7th generation Intel Core processors (not the latest Coffee Lake chips), but whether that goes to a Core i7 is not known. You can configure the tablet up to 8 GB LPDDR3 RAM.

The Quad HD screen (2.560 x 1.440 pixels) measures 12.3 inches and has a touchscreen that is compatible with a corresponding active stylus. The latter is in the box with some packages, but we assume that it is not included in the entry price.

The Chromebook x2 has 32 GB of storage on board, expandable with a microSD card up to 256 GB. Because you’re working with a Chrome OS device, you also enjoy 100 GB of free Google Cloud storage for two years. In the front there is a 5 megapixel camera, at the back a 13 megapixel variant.

On the side of the tablet there is room for two USB-C connections that are available for image output, power supply and data transfer. HP guarantees a battery life of up to 10 hours.

The HP Chromebook x2 will be available in the U.S. from June 10 for $ 599. When this Chromebook tablet is available with us and at what price, it is not yet known.
