HP introduces thinner Specter x360 with narrow bezels – update
HP has upgraded the Specter x360 convertible with, among other things, narrower screen bezels, reducing the size of the laptop. The laptop is also thinner and lighter. In addition, HP will release a new Envy all-in-one and the Envy 13 will receive an update.
Like the 2015 model, the 2016 Specter x360 has a 13.3″ screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, but the screen bezels are only 3.44mm wide on the sides. The previous model was 15.1mm. HP has been able to cut more than 11mm from the convertible on both sides, while maintaining the width of the keyboard. Not only has the laptop become more compact, but the weight has also been reduced from 1.45 to 1.29 kilograms. In addition, HP has 2, 1mm scraped off the thickness, to 13.8mm.
HP supplies the convertible with Core i5s and Core i7s from Intel’s Kaby Lake generation and up to 16GB of RAM. As far as storage is concerned, there is a choice of PCI-e SSDs of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. There are two USB-c ports with Thunderbolt support, supplemented by a USB 3.0 port of type a. The network card is a 2×2 802.11ac model and the battery capacity is 57.8Wh. New is the presence of fast charging, with which the battery could be charged to 90 percent in 90 minutes. The model also now has four speakers, two of which are directed upwards and two downwards, and a camera with support for Microsoft’s Hello authentication.
In the US, the redesigned x360 will be available from October 12 for $1,050 through HP.com, which has been converted and with VAT, $1,150.
The Envy 13 will also receive an update, albeit that it is a bit more modest. The battery capacity has been increased from 45 to 57.8Wh, with which the laptop would last four hours longer than the previous generation. This model also now supports fast charging. As with the previous Envy 13, HP has placed a glass plate over the entire screen and edges on some configurations. In combination with a Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD, HP charges $849 for the Envy 13. That is converted and with VAT almost EUR 930. There will also be more expensive models with Core i7s, up to 16GB of RAM and PCI-e SSDs of up to 1TB. Both the new Specter x360 and the Envy 13 are also provided with the new HP logo.
In addition to an upgrade of the laptops mentioned, HP is releasing a new all-in-one in the Envy line. This system has a 27″ IPS screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and can display 99 percent of the sRGB color space. The PC is built into the base and consists of a Core i5 or Core i7 quad-core from the Skylake generation combined with up to 16GB ddr 4. An additional video card is optional and this is the GeForce GTX 950M. In addition, the all-in-one has a usb-c port with thunderbolt support, hdmi in and out and four USB 3.0 ports. The system has a circular slider for controlling the audio, which is output from four Bang & Olufsen speakers. The system is coming in October and has a starting price of $1300 in the US.
Finally, HP comes with the Envy 27 Display: a 27″ monitor with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. This screen can also display 99 percent of the sRGB color gamut and there is also support for FreeSync, which in combination with a video card that supports the supports, reduce stuttering and tearing when playing games. The bezels are 6mm thick and the monitor itself is 15mm thick. Sales start in December from $500.
