HP introduces gaming laptop with second screen above keyboard
HP has unveiled a laptop with an extra screen in the bottom half. The touchscreen has a diagonal of 6″ and a 1080p resolution. Certain parts of the normal screen can be shown enlarged on the extra screen.
For example, the HP Omen X 2S 15 can show the chat log, a map or a stream on the second screen. It can also display the Omen Command Center, which can be used to monitor things like temperatures, network speeds and lighting.
Asus previously did something similar with its ZenBook Pro 15, which has an LCD instead of the touchpad. Due to the addition of the screen behind the keyboard, however, there is no room left for a touchpad in front of it. That is why it has been placed on the right side of the keyboard, where the numeric keypad is normally found.
HP goes on to say that the laptop has its new Omen Tempest cooling construction. It provides better airflow and uses Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut thermal paste. It consists of different metals and should offer better thermal conductivity than more common thermal pastes. With a thickness of 20 mm, the laptop is also thinner than the existing 26 mm thick Omen laptops.
The Omen X 2S comes in different configurations. The cheapest has a Core i7-9750H, 16GB DDR4 RAM, a 256GB SSD and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070. The display is a 15″ G-Sync IPS panel with a 1080p resolution. The strongest configuration has a i9-9980H, 32GB of RAM, a 2TB SSD, an RTX 2080 Max-Q and a display with 4k resolution or a 240Hz refresh rate at 1080p.The laptops also support 802.11ax WiFi and there is the option to upgrade to Intel Optane H10.
The standard Omen laptops are getting an upgrade. They also have the new HP cooling and are also thinner. They also get the same ninth generation Intel Core processors.
The Omen X 2S is expected to be available in July for a starting price of EUR 2999, and the updated Omen 15 and 17 will be available in the same month for prices starting at EUR 1299 and EUR 1799.
