MST Hospital in Enschede has been dealing with a major IT failure since Friday morning. Because the hospital’s IT infrastructure was down, several operations could not take place. Emergency patients had to be accommodated elsewhere.

The outage started on Friday morning around 9 a.m. In total, the hospital had to cancel 27 operations and refer patients to, for example, the emergency department in Almelo. Patients were also asked to stay at home.

The hospital said it was not a problem. Hospital employees could no longer access the systems with their computers. Telephone traffic was also down and the hospital was unable to post updates on the site.

The cause of the problems is unknown. “What we do know is that something has happened in the ICT system and that the backup did not work,” a spokesperson told RTV Oost. At around 12.44 pm, the malfunction was resolved and the hospital can now perform operations again and receive patients in the emergency department.
