Horror game The Callisto Protocol from Dead Space maker will be released in December
Sci-Fi survival horror game The Callisto Protocol is out December 2 for last-gen and current-gen consoles, and on PC. The game is being made by a studio founded by the Dead Space creator. Many developers of those games also work at the studio.
Created by Striking Distance Studios, The Callisto Protocol is set on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in the year 2320. Here, the player must escape from a prison and avoid or kill zombie-like creatures. The player takes on the role of Jacob Lee, a freighter pilot. Actor Josh Duhamel plays Lee. Duhamel previously starred in the Transformers movies and Call of Duty: WWII.
The developer say wanting to combine ‘cruelty, atmosphere, tension, humanity and hopelessness’ in order to arrive at the horror atmosphere. This is what Callisto must feel like an oppressed, closed world and players must be constantly tense. The makers also say they want to create an atmosphere with light that makes players constantly wonder what is in the shadows.
The game is coming to the PlayStation 5 and will therefore use 3D Audio and the haptic feedback and triggers of the controller. Striking Distance Studios cites the example of swinging Lee’s shock baton or the heavy footsteps of a large enemy for the haptic controller. In addition to that baton, players can defeat enemies with gravity weapon GRP and guns.
The game will appear on Xbox One and Series consoles, as well as PlayStation 4 and 5 and PC. The publisher of the game is Krafton, publisher of the PUBG battle royale games. The Callisto Protocol is led by Glen Schofield, who previously created the Dead Space games. Dozens of ex-Dead Space developers work at Striking Distance.
