Horizon Forbidden West update adds VRR support
Guerilla Games has added variable refresh rate (VRR) support to Horizon Forbidden West. A high refresh rate mode has also been added for 120Hz monitors and a ‘Balanced’ mode, which guarantees a minimum refresh rate of 40Hz.
VRR ensures that the frame rate and the refresh rate of the screen are equal and improves the dynamic resolution at 60Hz, writes Guerilla in the patch notes. The HFR mode is intended for 120Hz monitors and goes for a refresh rate between 60Hz and 120Hz. Then there is the ‘Balanced’ mode. You get a minimum refresh rate of 40Hz with monitors and televisions that support it. Furthermore, a number of issues have been resolved through the update. For example, there should be fewer crashes and various bugs have been solved.
Horizon Forbidden West is the most recent game from the Dutch Guerrilla Games, which is part of Sony’s PlayStation Studios. The open world game was announced in June 2020 and released in February for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It is the successor to Horizon Zero Dawn, which was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017 and later also appeared for Windows. Tweakers previously published a review of Horizon Forbidden West.
