Honor introduces first smartphone since sale by Huawei verkoop
Honor introduces its new View 40 5G smartphone. This is the first phone to be released by Honor since the subsidiary was sold by Huawei. In addition, the phone does not have a HiSilicon Kirin-soc, but a chip from MediaTek.
The Honor View 40 5G will have a 6.72 “OLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz, Honor reports in a press release. The panel supports HDR10+ and, according to Honor, can display the full DCI-P3 color space. Honor equips the View 40 5G with a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ soc, which was introduced in May 2020 and until recently was the chip manufacturer’s most high-end soc. This 7nm chip has an integrated 5G modem, four Cortex A76 cores at 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.
The 4000mAh battery supports fast charging at 66W. Wireless charging is possible with a maximum power of 50W. The smartphone is equipped with 8GB Lpddr4x memory and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The primary camera also has a resolution of 50 megapixels. Honor also provides the device with an 8-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens and a macro camera with a 2-megapixel sensor.
The View 40 5G is now available in China, where a variant with 128GB storage costs 456 euros. The 256GB model costs converted 507 euros. The company is not yet talking about availability outside of China.
Honor was sold by Huawei to a consortium of Chinese investors and a state organization last year. Before that, Honor was a subsidiary of Huawei, which also used technical parts such as Kirin socs. Honor was also affected by the trade ban with Huawei, which has been imposed by the US government. As a result of this ban, companies such as Google are no longer allowed to provide services or products to Huawei and its subsidiaries. Now that Honor is no longer a part of Huawei, this ban may no longer apply to the company.
It is therefore possible that an eventual international version of the Honor V40 5G will come with Google services, although that has not yet been confirmed. The presence of such services was not mentioned at the time of the announcement, as the phone is currently only available in China. Phones in that country are delivered without Google services anyway.
