Honor announces 70 and 70 Pro smartphones in China

Smartphone maker Honor has announced its Honor 70, 70 Pro and 70 Pro+ in China. The Pro and Pro+ are the same in cameras and screen, but mainly differ in choice of soc and price. The Honor 70 is a cheaper model.

All three phones have the same design and a primary camera with a new sensor, the Sony IMX800. That is a 54-megapixel camera with pixels of 1 micron in size. The optical size of the sensor is 1/1.49″, good for an area of ​​around 54 square millimeters. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a 50-megapixel sensor. The Pro and Pro+ have a telephoto camera; the Honor 70 has that not.

There is also a difference in the front cameras. The Honor 70 has a 32-megapixel sensor, the Pro and Pro+ have a 50-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens with an angle of view of 100 degrees. Honor has created a vlog feature for that that works like the “Center Stage” feature on iPads. The software zooms in and keeps the person and possibly an object in view during movement.

The Pro and Pro+ are the larger phones with a 6.78-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz and an area of ​​around 111 square centimeters. The Honor 70 has a slightly smaller screen with a slightly lower resolution.

The Honor 70 has a Snapdragon 778G soc from Qualcomm; the Pro and Pro+ are socs from MediaTek. Honor was long part of Huawei, but since 2020 it has been owned by a consortium led by the Shenzhen government.
