HomeComputerMuseum has a chance to become ‘Brabant Heritage’
The HomeComputerMuseum of tweaker WHiZZi is one of the three nominees for the Brabant Heritage Prize 2019. People can vote for the nominees until Sunday 3 November.
The HomeComputerMuseum has gone through two preliminary rounds by a jury to finish on the nomination list. It is now competing with two other Brabant projects. One of these is De Kiek, a ‘mock airport’ between Alphen and Riel with a bunker, an airplane and information panels. The other project focuses on the historic hop cultivation in Altena.
Tweaker WHiZZi, alias Bart van den Akker, is happy with the nomination: “It means that the province of Noord-Brabant finally recognizes technology and even computers as heritage and culture.” He hopes that technology museums will now receive national recognition.
He opened his HomeComputerMuseum in Helmond in March last year. The museum focuses on preserving, documenting and interactively presenting the history of the home computer in particular from 1975 to the present.
WHiZZi is currently moving to a larger location. On February 1, 2020, he wants to open the doors of his renovated museum, with a more professional appearance. To be able to pay for this, Van den Akker has started a crowdfunding campaign. Nearly half of the required 8,500 euros has now been received.
