Hobbyists put Android TV on Raspberry Pi 3
Hobbyists got Android TV working on a Raspberry Pi 3. Installing Android TV works by flashing the img file to an sd card, installing apps and games can only be done via sideloading.
The img file on MediaFire needed for Android TV unpacked takes around 7.7GB. Via a normal tool like Win32 Disk Imager, users can flash that file to an SD card, which according to a Pi 3 must be. After that, the system can boot directly.
There are many limitations to the operating system that GeekTillItHertz put online. For example, it is an aosp variant without Google services such as the Play Store. Accessing the memory also does not work flawlessly, so users have to sideload apps. This is possible via the adb sideload function, although the Amazon Fire TV Utility also works for that.
Android TV makes it possible to run Android apps on the Pi 3, such as emulators. There are also indications that the Pi 3 will officially receive support for Android. This concerns a regular version of Android and not Android TV.
