HMD will upgrade all its Nokia smartphones to Android P so far

Finnish HMD Global has promised to upgrade all of its Nokia smartphones so far to Android P when Google’s new mobile operating system is out. This concerns the models with Android One and smartphones from last year.

HMD doesn’t say when the upgrade will come, Android Authority says. For the new models, HMD is obliged to release the upgrade, because they came with Android Oreo and the Android One program requires manufacturers to release at least one major upgrade. Devices from last year came out with Nougat and have therefore already had an upgrade to Oreo.

These are the Nokia 2, 3, 5, 6 and 8 from last year and the 1, 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, 6.1, 7 Plus and 8 Sirocco from this year. The latest models will be released this summer and will probably run on Oreo upon release.

It is not yet known when the upgrades will take place. Last year, HMD started with upgrades for its devices in the fall. Other manufacturers have not yet announced their plans for upgrades to Android P. It is obvious that the phones that are in the beta program for Android P will get the upgrade in any case. However, that is not a given: the Sony Xperia Z3 was in the beta program for Android Nougat, but was never upgraded.
