HMD will present its first Nokia tablet next week
HMD will release a tablet under the Nokia brand in October. Specifications are not yet known, but presumably the device runs on Android, just like the Nokia smartphones from licensee HMD.
In a teaser on Twitter Nokia Mobile shows the side of the tablet, also showing the new version of the Nokia 3310, which appeared in 2017. “Everything you expect from Nokia in a tablet,” the company writes, with the date October 6.
In what way the tablet has a link with the new version of the classic Nokia 3310 is not clear. That device does not run Android, but Nokia’s own software for feature phones. It is not obvious that there will be a tablet with that software.
There have been indications for some time that a Nokia tablet is on the way. Nokiamob already wrote about mentions of the Nokia T20 at retailers at the end of July. It would be a 10.4 “tablet with 4GB of ram and 64GB of flash storage and there would be WiFi and 4G versions. At a webshop, those variants were listed for prices of 217 and 237 euros.
Finnish HMD has owned the rights to the Nokia brand name for mobile devices since 2016. So far, the company has only released phones. The Nokia N1, an 8″ Android tablet, did appear in 2015. At the time, the Nokia brand name for smartphones was owned by Microsoft, but Foxconn received a license to use the name for the tablet.
