HMD releases new version of Nokia 106 feature phone for $18
HMD comes with a new version of the Nokia 106. A device under that name was already released in 2014, then by Microsoft. The phone runs on Nokia’s Series 30+ operating system and has a 1.8″ screen.
The screen, which has a resolution of 160×120 pixels, is not a touchscreen. Operation is with physical buttons. The Nokia 106 contains a MediaTek 6261D-soc with unknown specifications, 4MB ram and 4MB storage space. There is room for up to two thousand contacts and a maximum of five hundred text messages.
The device weighs 70.2 grams and has an 800mAh battery, which must be charged via micro-usb. According to HMD, the battery is good for 15.7 hours of talk time or 21 days of standby time. The Nokia 106 only supports 2g networks.
Furthermore, the phone has an FM radio and Snake is installed. Other games Nitro Racing, Danger Dash and Tetris are available for a fee. According to the press release from HMD, the phone will be available for an average price of eighteen dollars. Converted that is about sixteen euros. It is not yet clear whether the device will also appear in the Benelux for that price.
There was already a Nokia 106 with largely similar specifications. That was a device that Microsoft released in 2014. Two years later, the Nokia brand name and the department that makes feature phones were taken over by the new Finnish company HMD.
