HMD releases Android 8.0 beta for Nokia 8
HMD has put a beta environment online where owners of Nokia smartphones can download early versions of Android updates. Android 8.0 Oreo for the Nokia 8 is the first beta available.
Juho Sarvikas, chief product officer at HMD, announces Nokia phones beta labs in a tweet. The beta environment can be found on the Nokia website and users must log in to download software updates. This is possible, for example, with a Google account.
After a check of the imei number and carrier, owners of the Nokia 8 get access to the beta of Android 8.0 Oreo. This will be sent to the smartphones as an ota update and it may take up to 12 hours for the update to be available.
AndroidPolice notes that the update became available on the phone immediately after signing up. The changelog also states that the Android 8.0 beta includes the October security update. It is not yet known when HMD will make the final version of Android 8 available for the Nokia 8 or other devices.
